Travis (22), an online fitness coach, first noticed hair thinning at 18. After years of struggling with hair loss, he turned to Numan. We spoke to him about his experience.
When did you first start to notice hair loss?
It wasn’t noticeable at first because it began at the back of my head. I only spotted it quite late. But it was around 18 that it started. Losing hair at a young age, especially when none of your friends are dealing with the same issue, was tough.
Did you try any other treatments?
It took me a while to do something about it, which set me back a bit. Initially, I tried using caffeine shampoos and even started doing scalp massages because I read somewhere that they help increase hair growth. Looking back, I'm not sure those were the best approaches.
Did hair loss impact your confidence or mental health?
It was one of the hardest things I’ve had to go through and such a massive shock. I was so young and your hair plays a big part in your identity. I did my best to cover it up but that’s also part of the problem as it was on my mind when going out, especially when going out with my friends who had luscious locks.
Has your confidence improved since you started treating your hair loss?
Yeah, massively. The treatment did a great job. Now I can go out feeling confident and don’t have to worry about hiding my lack of hair.
You seem very comfortable on camera and posting on Instagram. Has regaining your hair helped with that?
Being on camera added to the anxiety of losing my hair. I've been active on social media for a while, so have been online before and during my hair loss. Transitioning from having a full head of hair to experiencing hair loss while being on camera was tough. I started to receive comments about my hair, like: ‘He’s balding and he doesn’t know it’, which was hard.
At first, I was a bit clueless about it. You don't notice hair loss until it gets quite severe. It was hard having an audience and feeling judged. But now I feel more confident and I’m a lot happier because of it.
What challenges did you encounter during your treatment, and how did Numan's clinical team assist you in overcoming them?
In the first one to two months, my hair loss seemed to worsen a bit due to shedding, which worried me. It was quite distressing to see more hair loss initially. There’s a lack of education on this topic. More awareness and information would help guys understand the different processes and what to expect with treatments.
The Numan clinical team have been supportive and helpful. Having someone who knows what they’re talking about and guide you through the process really helps.
